In the News: Make Carbonate not Carbon Dioxide (when producing hydrogen from methanol)

Just published: Yiou Wang et al. show a novel light-driven system to produce hydrogen from methanol

LMU News and the media highlight a novel concept by Y. Wang et al. to transform methanol to hydrogen without releasing CO2.

In situ production of the required hydrogen from alcohol offers one way of ensuring its safe storage and transportation before use. To reform methanol to hydrogen, heat is usually used as the driving force and CO2 is released. Y. Wang et al. devised a light-triggered system to produce hydrogen in a safe, carbon-neutral and efficient way from alkaline methanol.
